Another Bad Carmax Experience…

posted in Carmax |

I was researching the Carmax website for selling my 2004 truck. They claim to use the Kelly Book in order to get a ballpark figure. I asked the salesman how accurate the Kelly book figures are and he said they aren’t off by much but that they really don’t go by those figures, just the “MARKET VALUE” of the truck. I told him that using the Kelly book sounds like a way to get people into the store if they don’t use those figures. He agreed with me and wondered why himself. When I got the appraisal results after waiting 45 minutes, their figures were $5700.00 less than the book value. Thanks Carmax for making me drive 95 miles one way for nothing!

There are 4+ ‘book’ values. NADA, Kelley, Edmunds, carsdirect, and probably some more, too. Kelley is the WORST, and almost always higher than real life. Dealers sell for less than KBB retail, you won’t ever sell it on your own for KBB private party, and Carmax or any dealer probably won’t give you KBB trade-in value either. Edmunds.com is much closer to real life, but for some reason Kelley is the most popular. Don’t ever base anything off of KBB…

I purchased a vehicle at CARMAX on May 6th paying with cash (casheirs check) May 7th I returned the vehicle due to many problems and requested a refund. I was told they would “expidite” my return. yesterday May 15th I was told they would not cut a check until May 21 and then mail it to the Tucson office. Beware their money back guarantee I want my 26k back now! I will never have anything good to say about carmax. BEWARE

My wife and I bought a car from Carmax and our experience has been nothing short of a nightmare! First off,let me say the car is mechanically sound ,all that is needed is some minor cosmetic work and we were told this is “not a problem” by our salesman. So we made an appointment to bring it back but couldn’t keep it so we tried to call them back to change it and thats when the nightmare began. My wife gets the service dept. on the phone and was asked”can you hold”?..she did…for 45 minutes! Then she called back and asked to speak to the service dept. again and was told they went home a 1/2 hour ago!Needless to say she and I were outraged and talked to the manager on the phone about this and he was “shocked” by it all and promised to make it right.

We decide to take the car to another Carmax store hoping for a better experience..what a joke!A service man contacted me by phone telling me how sorry he was about my problem at the other store and he too wanted to “make it right” and he claimed he was going to “take good care of us”,what some bulls%$#!He called us July 2nd and said their contractor does not work the 4th due to the holiday,we totally understood and he said the earliest we could get the car back would next week Tuesday,we were okay with that and brought the car in. he called the very next day saying the car was all done! sounds good right..wrong,when we got there on the 4TH of July no less we saw our car in the lot and found absolutely nothing had been done to it!

We had our service guy come out to explain this and he gave nothing but lame excuses stating the contractor told him it was all done and he called us to come get it.Our intelligence was insulted by this guy and now we are asking him questions on their “quality control”, his response was that he never has to check the work out because his guy is so awesome that no one ever complained! This is not the experience we bargained for and we told our service guy call us when this car looks “perfect”. I will let you know how things turn out,but I fully expect them to drop the ball again!
